Description:
Habitat: Andean and Peruvian plateaus. Western Bolivia, extending to northern Chile and western Argentina. Found at altitudes between 3,500 m and 4,500 m. The male has deep black plumage, marked by yellow wing bars. The tail feathers also feature yellow. The underparts are yellow. In the female, the black is replaced by blackish-brown.
A magnificent siskin regularly bred in captivity by specialist breeders. I would not recommend it to novice breeders, as it is a particularly delicate bird. Tap water must not be given to this goldfinch; mineral water must be used
. Some birds overwinter outdoors without any problems. Take care, however, in damp, cold conditions.
