The Agate Pastel mutation was established in the Himalayan Greenfinch (Chloris spinoides) over 30 years ago through intraspecific hybridisation with the European Greenfinch (Chloris chloris). We owe this breeding work in particular to Patrick Brizard. The Agate Pastel mutation is sex-linked and recessive.
