Bully Canary
Species: Canary
Latin name: Serinus sulphuratus
English name: Bully Canary, Brimstone Canary
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Fringillidae
Description:
Habitat: Central and southern Africa.
The male is predominantly yellow, like the Yellow-bellied Canary (Serinus flaviventris), but has a less distinct mask and, above all, a larger body and a stronger beak. The female is duller in colour and has a less pronounced mask pattern.
Very frequently featured in national and international exhibitions, the Brimstone Canary is a very beautiful aviary bird. It can be reared in a breeding cage measuring 1.20 × 0.50 m × 0.50 m or in a small aviary. Take care in communal aviaries, as this is a combative passerine!
