Habitat: The Black-headed Canary is found in Namibia, Botswana and South Africa. The male has black on the head, throat and breast. Its white plumage stops at the edge of the black throat, running down the flanks and extending from the middle of the breast to the lower abdomen. The back is a warm russet brown. The female is paler. She has no black, but a grey-brown head streaked with blackish-brown. The greater and lesser wing coverts are russet brown. It is high time to breed this magnificent African canary as a pure breed, as the experience of avian influenza shows us just how important it is to develop breeding lines. The Alario Canary is reared in a cage measuring 1.20 m × 0.50 m × 0.50 m.
