Description:

Habitat: Palearctic region, from Spain to Japan. A regular visitor to our parks, gardens and orchards, it is truly one of the most majestic passerines in our region.

The male has a russet-brown head and is easily recognisable by its black bib shaped like an inverted triangle. Its plumage is predominantly brown. The secondary flight feathers are a glossy black-violet.

The female resembles the male but her plumage is browner and her secondary flight feathers are edged with grey.

Large aviaries are recommended. Minimum dimensions: 2m x 2m x 1m. Please note: it is not the breeder who forms the breeding pair. You must have several pairs and observe them during the winter months. They will mate naturally, and you will simply need to separate them and place them in their breeding aviary. Take a different approach and fighting and damage are guaranteed. The Great Tit is well-armed by nature and its beak is a formidable crushing weapon. It’s not for nothing that it’s called the ‘nutcracker’!
