Description:
Sexual dimorphism is very pronounced in the Grey-headed Bullfinch. This splendid bullfinch closely resembles both the Red-headed Bullfinch and the Orange-headed Bullfinch in terms of its shape and the pattern of its mask. However, this species also shares certain characteristics with the Nepalese bullfinch, such as the black tail with bluish highlights.
The range of this bullfinch is as follows: Sikkim, Bhutan, southern Tibet and northern Burma.
In China, it is found in Yunnan and Sichuan as far as Hubei and Formosa.
DESCRIPTION OF THE MALE:
Lores, forehead, chin: glossy black extending to behind the eye.
Grey/whitish border around the mask.
No black crown; replaced by a grey crown.
Bill: glossy black.
Wing bar: grey (secondary coverts).
Primary flight feathers: grey/black (black with grey and reddish tints).
Secondary flight feathers: glossy black with bluish tints.
Throat: grey.
Breast: red.
Underbelly: off-white.
Inner and outer tail feathers: glossy black with bluish highlights, with a graduated pattern.
Undertail and uppertail coverts: white.
Rump: white.
Legs: flesh-coloured
Toes: black.

Eyebrows: greyish-white, with brown markings;
Lores, forehead, mask: black (smaller than in the male);
Throat: grey, with brown markings; Breast, flanks, underparts: brown with greyish tints;

Neck, back: brown with greyish tints;
