Blue Chaffinch (Fringilla teydea)
A species of chaffinch found in the wild exclusively on the Canary Islands. The subspecies teydea is found on Tenerife, and the subspecies polatzeki on Gran Canaria. The male is predominantly slate blue, whilst the female is brownish and more dull in colour. Its plumage is similar to that of the female chaffinch. The white markings above and below the eye are characteristic of the species. It is the largest finch. It inhabits the native pine forests of the Canary Islands
It is found in a few specialist breeding centres, exclusively outside France. Its breeding requirements are similar to those of our common chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs). The breeding season runs from May to June–July. The female usually lays only two eggs.
